God loves sex workers. This shouldn’t be a controversial statement for Christians who believe that God loves everyone. And yet, our attitudes towards and treatment of those who work in the sex trades generally fail to uphold their dignity, autonomy and well-being in the unconditional love of God. Morality matters, for sure--yet whose power and interests are preserved in how our society views and acts towards those who engage in morally complex ways to earn their living? What does justice and compassion mean in the situations where we might disagree with or be offended by or simply not understand the choices of others?
