Are we there yet? This business of waiting for Christmas can be a tiresome affair, and yet waiting itself can be a beneficial spiritual discipline. Joseph learned he was a player in God’s story. As God’s story continues, are we willing to jump in and play the part written for us?

Look inside yourself and ask, "what am I waiting for?” what holds me back from being hopeful in a dark world? Isaiah 35 says, “Take courage! Do not be afraid! Look, Yahweh is coming, vindication is coming.”

We have this story of God, and that’s all it is really – a story. But this story is still playing out today, somewhere, somehow. And that story is hard to see playing out with all the fear getting in the way.

And until we stop waiting in fear, start being the hands and feet of Christ, and watching for God working nearby, we won’t become the hope we need in despair.
