As human beings, we all have a common core, a common identity that is deeper than our personal identities of gender, culture, ability, etc. The Christian tradition talks about this as being made in the image of God, the Spirit of God, unity in the Body of Christ.

As human beings, we are unique individuals, with different backgrounds, personalities, and experiences. The Christian tradition talks about this as gifting, calling, diversity, being made in the image of God.

Sometimes our journey towards Justice brings two ideals which are in tension. To honour our common identity and value, we look for justice in equality, in treating everyone the same. Yet to honour the depth of our differences, we look for justice in diversity, in treating people differently based on their particular needs. Which should be our focus?

In this sermon, Joe looks at this tension through examining gender equality and differences. Be aware that this sermon includes a raw description of one woman's experience of harassment and abuse.
